Movies and Meaning Group "Ponyo" - August 20

The movie for August 20 will be "Ponyo," another one of Academy Award-winning Hayao Miyazaki's animated features. It has been described as magical and a feast for the imagination. This movie may appear to be light fair compared to our usual intense, how-do-we-solve-the-problems-of-the-world independent films. However, artistic works of the imagination like this have a very close cousin-type relationship to the world of religious literature. This movie presents some good metaphors around the balance of nature and our role in maintaining that balance. Besides that it is supposed to be a feat for the eyes and the imagination! What fun!

Q & A

free planting pots/trays/flats

Hello fellow gardenersI work at the Learning Gardens Laboratory in SE Portland.

A couple weeks ago, Bill Alley from City of Portland Horticultural Services came by to inform me that they have quite a surplus of planting pots, trays, and flats that will have to be junked if no one comes to get them.

Currently, we are all set with pots at the LGL. However, if your organization/school garden/project needs pots or flats or trays - go to the Mt. Tabor Yard @ 6437 SE Division. They're free.

Bill Alley is there on Wed-Fri from 7am - 3:30pm. His number is (503)823-1636.
