Portland eating local for our future - Wed 7pm

When: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Where: St. Francis Dining Hall - 1182 SE Pine St. - Portland, OR

Local pedal-power and sail-power activists will follow up their meetings and efforts regarding food transport leading up to and during the Village Building Convergence last June.  A "Portland Food Security System" must have simple, sustainable transport for food year round.  No one can assume that plentiful food will always be shipped in from far away, using petroleum.  So in addition to local transport using human power and wind in sails, issues of food cultivation, gathering and preservation need to be addressed for adding these elements to the system.

Basic components such as farms, CSA's, community gardens, bike carts, and sail boats can be linked, as we have already demonstrated, and made long-term and expanded with added resources such as back yard produce/fruit tree sharing, depaving, food-not-lawns, canoes on the river, and more.  A question inspired by Cuba's urban farming success: can Portland be transformed into a food forest relatively soon?  Join us.  This event is free and open to the public.
