For the River: Columbia Riverkeeper's 7th Annual Art + Experience Auction- September 26th, 2009

Columbia Riverkeeper invites you to join us for our 7th Annual Art and Experience Auction, entitled "For the River," to be held Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at the University of Oregon’s White Stag Building in downtown Portland.

The event will feature both live and silent auctions featuring beautiful artwork and amazing trip experiences. Auction items include pieces from locally, regionally, and nationally renowned artists, rafting trips and other exciting river excursions, vacation getaways, and much more.

Enjoy gourmet hors d’ouevres, locally crafted micro-brews and fine wines, and an evening of mingling with fellow river supporters.

Run for Congo Women - September 19 - Forest Park

Women for Women International will hold its Run for Congo Women - Portland at Lower Macleay Park in Portland on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at 8:30am. 

Registration is $30 and is now available at www.runforcongowomen.org/portland. 

Participants can run or walk and have a choice of a 3 or a 9 mile course.  Run for Congo Women – Portland benefits Women for Women International’s efforts to provide women in the Congo, who face brutal gang rape and torture amidst the deadliest conflict since World War II, with life-changing services of direct monetary assistance, rights awareness education and job skills training.

"Tour de Lab", Ride bikes to support Dove Lewis Animal Hospital

TOUR DE LAB SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 TourDeLab.com ===================

Tour de Lab is a benefit bicycle ride for Dove Lewis, the non-profit emergency animal hospital. The two routes take riders on a tour of Portland from Lucky Lab to Lucky Lab. It's perfect for riders of all levels and there is tons of support along the way.

At each rest stop, you'll earn your doggie gear: nose, ears and tail that you can parade around the city wearing and showing off your support of Dove Lewis.

At the finish line, there is a gigantic hot dog making bar with all the fixins, pasta salad, chips and a commemorative pint glass and activities.

'Round UP on the Bluff 5k run/walk to benefit Open Meadow

University of Portland (UP) Army ROTC cadets are holding a 5k run/walk on Saturday, September 19 on the campus of UP.

Position Summary: A core duty for the AmeriCorps Stewardship Program Associate will be to organize and facilitate volunteer work parties for the Cascade Land Conservancy.

Work parties take place throughout the year, often on Saturdays. Typical work parties will focus on: controlling invasive plant species; replanting with appropriate native vegetation; and general site maintenance and monitoring. Ready To Rent is Still Here! Instructor Training is Coming in October

The pool of rental housing education programs in Portland may be expanding, but Ready to Rent has been serving agencies and renters since 2000.

The Ready to Rent national office is gearing up for its fall training October 6-8, 2009.

This two and a half day training will equip agency providers with the necessary tools to successfully guide clients through the Ready to Rent process. We provide an interactive, participatory learning environment that will stimulate thinking, encourage growth, increase knowledge, enhance teaching skills, and motivate trainees to provide their clients with a life changing learning experience.

Harvest Century 2009

Volunteers are needed for the 7th annual Harvest Century Presented by Showers Pass on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

The Harvest Century is a non-competitive bike fundraising event to benefit Community Vision (CVI). Now celebrating 20 years, CVI provides direct, one-to-one support to individuals with developmental disabilities in Oregon.

Last year, this event raised over $25,000 and had 1050 participants. Organizers expect more of everything this year and they need 100 community volunteers to register participants, load trucks, cut hundreds of bagels, drive support vehicles, stuff goody bags, and much more.

Volunteer Photographer Needed! Aquifer Adventure

Ahoy thar, matey! A volunteer photographer is needed to help document our 7th annual Aquifer Adventure on Saturday, September 12th. Join our volunteer crew for a swashbuckling adventure on the high sloughs, as the Portland Water Bureau and Columbia Slough Watershed Council team up to present AQUIFER ADVENTURE a FREE fun, family-friendly event full of educational games and pirate booty. Well provide snacks (to avoid scurvy), T-shirts, and training. This is a big event for CSWC and the Water Bureau - last year we had over 450 people attend - we really need your help to make this a huge success. So come volunteer or walk the plank!
