Plant the Seed: feed Portland's homeless youth at p:ear

Plant the Seed is an event organized with local restaurants all over Portland to host a night of giving on November 28th. Several eating establishments are generously donating a portion of sales or collecting cash donations on that evening. We are raising funds to grow the food program at p:ear to feed more young people hot meals on more days.

What is p:ear? p:ear is Portland's independent non-profit resource center for homeless and parent-less youth. The staff and volunteers helps build positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.

Q & A

Seeking information about an affordable fundraising software platform

I'm an event organizer looking for options and reviews of fundraising platforms online. I'm aware of and talking to Blackbaud-Kintera and Convio and am getting an idea of their software packages for fundraising event registration with individual fundraising including individual webpages and fundraising tracked toward the fundraising goal (most commonly with a thermometer icon) as a key component. It seems like these companies' products may be geared toward the national nonprofit organization that can purchase a large package and have it be economically feasible on the local level by virtue of volume of use across all its affiliates. I'm looking for a fundraising platform that does the same thing but on a basic level and more affordable for the small nonprofit organization. Any ideas?

Volunteering

Help out at the REACH Holiday Party

REACH is now recruiting event volunteers for its annual Holiday Party.

The Holiday Party is a community celebration for the residents of REACH Community Development, an affordable housing nonprofit that serves low-income individuals in Portland, OR.

During the event, more than 300 residents of REACH housing gather together to celebrate our community with music, food, and activities. There are photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus, and gifts from the North Pole elves (donated by employees of local area businesses) There is also a craft table, coat giveaway, and a marimba band.

Here are the following areas we need help with:

- Setting up and decorating the space

- Preparing and serving food

- Managing the coat area

- Doing crafts with kids
