You're Invited to The Pangaea Project's New Year Party!

The Pangaea Project, a leadership development and international service-learning program for Portland at-risk youth, is starting 2010 in style with an "all are welcome" party at Zaytoon Bar on Thursday, January 21 from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

The evening’s festivities will include free samples of Middle Eastern fusion cuisine, Latin music, door prizes, and an opportunity to win a free roundtrip plane ticket.

The Pangaea Project has much to celebrate this year. Another group of high school students, all of whom come from low-income families, graduated last November from Pangaea’s unique program, which took them into the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest and the rice paddies of Thailand to engage in hands-on projects and learn about grassroots social change.

Explore the world of mentoring !

Attend an informal, introductory session on how to become a mentor

Potential mentors always have a variety of questions when considering if, how and where to mentor. Join Oregon Mentors’ program manager, Celeste Janssen, for an informational session to learn what it means to mentor, how to take the first step toward becoming a mentor, and to get answers to all of your questions. Celeste will also talk about stages of a mentoring relationship and qualities that research shows makes mentoring effective. This session is meant to educate, but your attendance doesn’t require you to sign up for a program.

January 26th, 6 pm to 7:30 pm, North Portland Library’s Meeting Room (512 North Killingsworth Street)

SOLV Tree Planting in Troutdale, Sat. Feb. 6

Plant Trees and help restore the Beaver Creek watershed in Troutdale at SOLV’s Team Up For Watershed Health site on Saturday, February 6. Plantings start at 9 am, end by 12 pm and SOLV provides tools and gloves. By planting native trees and shrubs, volunteers will be lowering stream temperatures and creating an ecosystem that will filter polluted stormwater runoff, improve water quality in this popular recreation area, provide better habitat for wildlife, and be more resilient to climate change.
