Workshops Focus on Saving Energy, Money and the Earth

Learn how to reduce energy costs, increase energy independence and explore the ethics of energy at workshops for congregations (noon) and individuals (6 pm) on June 11 at Central Lutheran Church, 1820 NE 21st Ave. in Portland. SE Works is looking for a creative and resourceful individual to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator/Instructional Aid for our youth General Education Development (GED) program. The preferred candidate will have experience working with youth in an educational setting, strong organizational abilities, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work a flexible schedule (including some evenings). Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a two year alternative high school and job training program whose mission is to support low-income young adults, ages 17-24, who are committed to changing their lives to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the workforce and their community. At PYB, students complete high school with a GED or diploma and develop marketable employment skills by learning to build affordable housing from the ground up or learning to refurbish computers and develop Web sites for non-profits and low-income families. All PYB students have the opportunity to serve as part-time AmeriCorps members and earn an AmeriCorps Education Award.

Help people exiting prison with the Portland Partners Re-Entry Initiative!

The Portland Partners Reentry Initiative is dedicated to helping people successfully re-enter the Portland community after incarceration by increasing their access to employment, education and support services.

Major Role:

To serve as a mentor to an adult who is transitioning from incarceration to the community.

Major Responsibilities:

· Offer support, encouragement, and motivation to participant with whom you have been matched.

· Work as a part of a team in conjunction with the Portland Partner’s Re-entry staff, parole officers, and community agencies.

· Motivate and help participant learn how to help her/himself.

· Support participant as they access community services.
