RACC - Artist Workshop 2/6/10

Presenting Yourself Professionally: a panel discussion

How does an artist grow his/her career? This program will explore tips and ideas for artists who wish to exhibit their work, build a professional resume, and make stronger connections with the arts community. In panel discussion format, several perspectives will be offered on how to work with curators (commercial and non-commercial), apply to juried exhibitions, and use the Internet as a significant tool. There will be time for questions and conversation.

Find A Green Community in 2010 – Tour Daybreak Cohousing on February 7

Looking for a sustainable, friendly community? Meet members of Daybreak Cohousing, learn about cohousing and tour the community on Sunday, February 7, 1:30-3:30 p.m. on site at 2525 N. Killingsworth Street. (#72 Killingsworth bus or Max to the Killingsworth station). Members have been moving into Daybreak and new homes are available for sale including 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units.

PEEPs Spring Into Action! Spring Break Camp

The Portland Environmental Engagement Program (PEEPs) is a refreshing alternative to traditional spring and summer offerings for middle-school aged youth. PEEPs day camp sessions educate youth about the many environmental and community issues that affect our local region. Counselors inspire children to take a leadership role in these issues while showing them that service can be fun and adventurous!

PEEPs is pleased to announce its SPRING INTO ACTION! Spring Break Camp 2010 for Middle School Youth!

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) has released its annual report for 2009. The publication, available online at www.racc.org/2009AnnualReport, includes a summary of last year’s activities in service to artists and arts organizations throughout the Portland metropolitan region.

Free displays on wheels

Print Arts NW has 6 free free standing rolling display units, these were used in our gallery in the Pearl for 6 years, they still look ok.

We have partnered with the Washington County Museum on the Rock Creek PCC Campus and do not have room for them.

We need to have them removed from the museum storage space in a few days.

Registration is now open for Veg 101.

Back by popular demand, Northwest VEG’s six-week primer on vegetarian living begins on March 7 at Whole Foods Market in downtown Portland.

Veg 101, as the name implies, is designed primarily for beginners, although even long-term vegetarians and vegans can benefit from the course. The material includes presentations on nutrition, sustainability, and the ethical issues surrounding diet, as well as cooking lessons about grains, legumes, tofu, tempeh, seitan, non-dairy cheeses, and more.

Volunteering

Help Cancer Patients and their Families

The American Cancer Society needs volunteers to staff Cancer Resource Centers (CRC's) at various hospitals in the Portland area. CRC Volunteers assist cancer patients, families and/or caregivers in finding cancer-related information, programs and services in the community.

Comprehensive training is provided. Volunteer shifts (3-4 hrs each) occur M-F, during work hours. A commitment of 2-4 shifts per month is ideal. This is a truly rewarding position that allows volunteers to make a difference in the lives of others. Detailed description below.

Plant trees with Friends of Trees this Saturday to grow healthy communities

We’re in the midst of a very successful planting season and we need your help! To plant trees with us, simply show up around 8:45am at the staging sites listed below. With four plantings this weekend, there’s bound to be one close to you. Friends of Trees will provide morning refreshments, gloves, and tools, as well as guidance from experienced volunteer crew leaders. We just ask that you wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.

OMSI Human Resources Newsletter Volunteer

POSITION SUMMARY: The Human Resources Newsletter Volunteer is responsible for the production of OMSI’s monthly newsletter for paid staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Facilitate submission of topics for newsletter articles • Interact with staff regarding article submission. • Gather information and write some newsletter articles, and edit and compile other articles and accompanying photos that are submitted by staff. • Lay out articles and photos into a newsletter format, to be distributed internally to paid staff in both printed and electronic form.
