Girls Inc. Girls' CommuniCARE Fundraiser

The GirlzCARE of "CommuniCARE" announce Winter Blah Spa Day!

Festivities include a manicure by a GirlzCARE team member and hourly workshops on Reflexology, Salsa Dancing, Qigong and Spoken Word by Renee Mitchell. Five baskets will be auctioned off as part of the fundraising efforts.

Local Youth Present "Aladdin" at Christian Youth Theater

CYT Vanport is pleased to present an original musical production of the classic tale of a boy named Aladdin, starring 70 kids from throughout Portland and Gresham.

CYT’s original musical Aladdin has everything: A magic Genie, fantastic bad guys, heroic good guys, an entourage of harem girls and a true love story that will touch everyone’s heart. Aladdin and his resourceful Genie outwit the evil Jafar and his minions and save Princess Jasmine, all with the help of a magic lamp. The spectacular production numbers are set in the Cave of Wonders, the Baghdad marketplace and the Sultan’s Palace.

Bill Nye the Science Guy in Portland on March 11th!

"Volcanoes Change the World…So Can You" with Bill Nye the Science Guy and the Mount St. Helens Institute!

Join Bill Nye on March 11 at 7:00pm March 11 at First Congregational Church in Portland as he brings you his own style of scientific discovery. Bill will share his thoughts on Mount St. Helens, 30 years after it’s catastrophic eruption in 1980. Expect some fun and entertaining experiments as well as a spirited question and answer session.

All proceeds will go towards the Mount St. Helens Institute's efforts to promote stewardship, science and appreciation of Mount St. Helens and the Pacific Northwest volcanic landscapes.

Faith community volunteers are stepping up and providing more service to those in need.  The 2010 Faith Forum is offering a special workshop that will focus on how we can keep our volunteers inspired and valued.

Keynote Speaker Rev. Dr. Roy Green, will invite us to explore what it means to be a compassionate community with story, teaching, personal reflection, and exploration of six sacred questions for promoting spiritual health.

Join us for our first Academy Awards viewing party - on the big screen of the beautiful Venetian Theatre in downtown Hillsboro!

Beginning at 4pm, we will welcome you on the Red Carpet, where you can have your picture taken, not to mention wave at the adoring fans and paparazzi.

Then proceed inside the Venetian Theatre where you can purchase specialty drinks and delicious food selections and mingle with others in the elite set, admiring their formalwear, costume, or pajamas. Make sure to fill out your Awards voting card before the show begins!

Type of Position: LINKS AmeriCorps Member

Length of Term: 20 - 30 hours/week for 15 weeks. (30 hours/week preferred.) 300 or 450 hours total.

Forest Grove Farmers Market CALL FOR ARTISTS - $100 PRIZE

Each year the Forest Grove Farmers Market (managed by the Nonprofit Adelante Mujeres) conducts a poster contest, inviting local artists to design the poster for the market season. This is an exciting opportunity to make local art more visible in the community while supporting local artists. SUBMIT DESIGNS BY MARCH 31st.

The Details:

The top three finishers will receive cash prizes ($100, $50 and $25) and the winner’s design will be used as the official poster for the 2010 Market. Your poster must be 11 x 17 inches with a 2 inch margin (of fill space) to be used for sponsors’ logos and include the following information:

Seeking Volunteer Business Mentors for Latino Business Development Project

Adelante Mujeres’ small business development program, Adelante Empresas, is seeking volunteers to mentor a small Latino/a business. Our mentoring program is a way for professionals with business experiences to work one-on-one with an entrepreneur and share their knowledge in a way that develops the entrepreneur’s capacity while providing a valuable opportunity for the volunteer to give back to the community.

Adelante Empresas’ programs works towards improving the wellbeing of the growing Latino/a community through providing access to the social and economic capital necessary for Latino/a businesses to succeed in today’s society.

Plant Trees this Saturday with Friends of Trees!

Join Friends of Trees this Saturday, March 6th from 9am-1pm at SE 92nd Ave & SE Flavel St, Portland, OR 97266 as we help ‘green’ the I-205 multi-use path!

Come be a part of this amazing multi-year project that will help beautify east Portland, create habitat for birds and other animals and improve air quality! No experience necessary, Friends of Trees provides the tools, gloves, trees, donuts and coffee. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.

Planting volunteers should arrive at 8:45 to sign in and have a snack before the planting starts at 9!

Date/Time: TWO SHIFTS: 1) Friday, March 12 from 2pm to 4pm; 2) Saturday, March 13 from 7am to 12pm

Description: Supporting the Mock Trial State Finals in various capacities including crowd control, setting up courtrooms, providing information to attendees, etc.
