City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services Presents Ecoroof Portland 2010

 

Building owners and home owners wondering how to go about building an ecoroof can learn about it at Ecoroof Portland 2010 THIS Friday, March 12 and Saturday March 13, 2010. Ecoroofs are vegetated roof systems that absorb rain to reduce stormwater runoff and last longer than conventional roofing.

Springboard Social Innovation Forum: HATCH: A New Approach to Incubating Community Innovation

Who: Springboard Innovation hosts its monthly Social Innovation Forum on Wednesday, March 10th 2010, from 6-9pm. There is limited space for this month’s event, so RSVP is REQUIRED.

What: At the March Springboard Social Innovation Forum we’ll be addressing innovative physical spaces. By creating an active idea laboratory, shared workspace, specifically designed educational programs, appropriate tools, and needed expertise, we can cultivate innovative technology- and service-based solutions to shared problems using newly collaborative, enriched strategies that can be replicated in diverse settings globally.

The Oregon Mediation Association and Hand in Hand Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Israel invite you to “From Conflict to Peace: Working with the Next Generation” an evening with young Jewish and Arab students from an integrated Jewish - Arab school in Jerusalem.

Pioneer Family Festival

          For the 11th straight year the Optimist’s will present the Pioneer Family Festival with fun for all as part of Oregon City’s Family Fun Days. This year visitors will enjoy some of the annual festival favorites such as the 13th Annual Teddy Bear Parade and the huge Carnival and Midway presented by Davis Shows Northwest. Along with the carnival and parade, this family friendly festival includes:  An entertainment stage, vendor and food booths, skateboard and BMX competitions, pony rides and 3 days of fun.  The festival is held at Clackamette Park, in Oregon City, May 14th – 16th.    Bringing in 8,000 visitors or more each year, the Pioneer Family Festival is an ideal venue to showcase your organization.

Education-Workshop EARTHEN FLOOR INSTALLATION TRAINING WORKSHOP

Earthen Floor Installation Training Workshop

The instructions include: preparing the space, tool use, mixing, and application techniques for both base floor and finish floor, burnishing, finishing a dry floor and doing repairs. There will be lots of time actually laying a finish floor. Participants will receive a completion certificate, which will count towards becoming a certified Claylin installer. Open for 8-10 participants.

Join experts for a hands-on workshop all about the Columbia Slough, a slow-moving channel of water that flows through North & Northeast Portland, Fairview, and Gresham. Learn about the history, wildlife, and water flow of the Columbia Slough, and discuss current issues and projects.  Experts will lead hands-on activities including a tour of a pump station and water bug discovery.  Suitable for adults and teens.  Pre-registration is required, and light refreshments will be provided. This free workshop is hosted by the Columbia Slough Watershed Council.

Explore the world of mentoring Attend an informal, introductory session on how to become a mentor

Potential mentors always have a variety of questions when considering if, how and where to mentor. Join Oregon Mentors’ Director, Carolyn Becic, for an informational session to learn what it means to mentor, how to take the first step toward becoming a mentor, and to get answers to all of your questions. Carolyn will also talk about stages of a mentoring relationship and qualities that research shows makes mentoring effective. This session is meant to educate, but your attendance doesn’t require you to sign up for a program.
