** REGISTER TODAY** for the The Inter-Religious Action Network’s  7th Annual 2010 Community Faith Forum Faith & Health: Nurturing, Inspiring and Sustaining a Compassionate Community

Faith community volunteers are stepping up and providing more service to those in need.  The 2010 Faith Forum is offering a special workshop that will focus on how we can keep our volunteers inspired and valued.Keynote Speaker Rev. Dr. Roy Green, will invite us to explore what it means to be a compassionate community with story, teaching, personal reflection, and exploration of six sacred questions for promoting spiritual health. 3 special sessions will be offered.

Women's Business Showcase/Friends of Trees Fundraiser: Vendor Tables available April 17

The 4th Annual Women's Business Showcase is open to the public from 10am-3:30pm on Saturday, April 17 at McMenamins Kennedy School - 5736 NE 33rd Ave.  

This event is FREE to the public and FREE parking is available. Vendor tables cost $75 for a half-table (4 feet long) and $130 for a full table (8 feet long). This includes breakfast, $10 lunch voucher, table, white tablecloth, chair, ads in Portland Picks and NE Star, and other promotion.

There will be a silent auction during the showcase and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Friends of Trees. For info call Julee Wasserman, organizer, at (541) 806-1075 or email [email protected]

TreeTalk Workshop: Pruning & Tree Care

Turn over a new leaf at the next TreeTalk Workshop. Learn proper, and improper, tree pruning tips from an industry professional.

The free workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on April 3 at Marshall Community Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. in Vancouver, WA.

First, learn about Vancouver Urban Forestry’s campaign: “Think Before You Top. Get the Facts.” Learn about the hazards of topping and how you can help prevent them by getting involved in the tree awareness campaign.

Learn how to prune your trees with the assistance of an industry professional, who will discuss proper procedures and answer questions. The workshop will then move to the Street Tree Arboretum at Clark College for a hands-on demonstration of proper pruning techniques.

Workshop on International Humanitarian Aid Work

Please join Concordia University and Arif Khan on April 17th from 9-4pm for a workshop on International Humanitarian Aid Work. This 8 hour course is designed to give an overview of the field of international humanitarian aid and will provide attendees with a wide range of information as well as practical advice on how to get a job as an international relief worker.

Arif Khan has been an international aid worker since 2005 and has managed relief programs during armed conflicts and in post-disaster situations. Cost is $40 per person.

Neighbors as Communities: Creating Neighborhood Groups sponsored by Transition PDX

When: Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm at the St. Francis Church Dining Hall on SE 11th and Pine St.

What:The first of a series on organizing local Transition Initiatives and other neighborhood groups will feature successful local approaches that we can learn from.  Each one will talk about how they got started and what worked to bring people together and create community.

Google Docs for Non-Profits

Learn how free Google Docs technology can help with crucial tasks such as: 1) Collecting information through a simple web form; 2) Sorting information and collaborating between people; 3) Sharing and publishing that information through email or web pages.

Taught by local technology consultant Rory Bowman of MacRory.com, Vancouver native with over twenty years experience teaching and supporting technology. This program is in cooperation with UpgradeYourCommunity.org, a local partnership that brings together government, education and the private sector to recycle electronics and bridge the digital divide.

Forming a Non Profit

The workshop is intended to guide the participants through the pros and cons of forming a Washington non-profit, forming the non profit with the Secretary of State, including sample Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, Conflicts of Interest Policy, as well as guiding the participants through registration with Washington's Secretary of State's Charities Division.. Volunteer Database Coordinator for Club Impact

Are you good at managing and organizing data? The Club Impact program at Impact NW is looking for a volunteer that will help with initial database set up and be available several hours a month to help with ongoing updates. Club Impact is a new program for adults with disabilities that provides clients with social opportunities and activities. Previous database experience is preferred. The database doesn't currently exist so creativity and patience will be a plus!

Location: Your home or SE Multicultural Services Center, 4610 SE Belmont, Portland

Commitment: Flexible

Salvage Building Materials: Rebuilding Center

Reduce, recycle, reuse! Help reduce the flow of useable building materials into the waste stream by volunteering at the Rebuilding Center's non-profit store for used building materials. We'll be doing a hands-on project, so come ready to work and have fun! We especially need volunteers to de-nail lumber.

Closed toe shoes required, and bring a water bottle and work gloves if you have them. Wear warm clothes as the building is chilly. Some tasks may involve medium to heavy lifting. Youth welcome with parent or guardian. Enter thru the big brown community trees (you'll know them when you see them). Please be as punctual as possible.
