Women's Business Showcase ~ Friends of Tree Fundraiser Sat April 17

Celebrate local "Women and the Earth" this Saturday, April 17 at the Women's Business Showcase. This is free to the public and free parking is available.

Where: McMenamins Kennedy School, 5736 NE 33rd in Portland from 10am-3:30pm. There will be a silent auction and 100% of proceeds will go to Friends of Trees. This is a great place to shop for unique & local products, find a new health practitioner, see what local women in business are up to, get your palm read, get a massage, win amazing door prizes, support Friends of Trees, find a realtor, mortgage broker or photographer...and nuch more!

Vancouver Celebrates Arbor Day this Wednesday

The Community is Invited to Vancouver’s Arbor Day Celebration on April 14

Join the festivities from 11 a.m. to noon, this Wednesday at the Mayor’s Grove in Marshall Community Park, 1009 E McLoughlin, when the City of Vancouver officially celebrates Arbor Day. This year’s celebration theme, “Planting Trees Today for our Children’s Tomorrow,” highlights the benefits of urban trees for future generations.

Featured events include a ceremonial tree planting, giveaway of free tree seedlings, children’s crafts and activities, Mac Award ceremony and a presentation of awards for the City of Vancouver and Clark Public Utilities’ urban forest efforts.

Sierra Club Presents: SWEET CRUDE!

SIERRA CLUB PRESENTS: SWEET CRUDE!

The Sierra Club, Oxfam America, and the Presbyterian Church USA are proud to announce a complimentary screening of the film Sweet Crude at the historic Hollywood Theatre in Portland. Filmmaker Sandy Cioffi will be in attendance to discuss her journey and answer questions directly after the screening.Sweet Crude captures the tragedies of oil extraction in the Niger Delta where billions of dollars of crude oil flow under the feet of a desperate people and immense wealth and abject poverty stand in stark contrast. This screening is part of our organizations’ ongoing efforts to help citizens from resource-rich countries hold their governments accountable for the management of their natural resources.

This Lime Tree Bower, Theater Performance Benefiting Neighbors West-Northwest

Event Description: Please join us for a performance of "This Lime Tree Bower"on May 6th at CoHo Theater benefiting Neighbors West-Northwest, a coalition of 12 neighborhoods in NW and inner SW Portland. Seating begins at 7:45 p.m. Theater tickets are regularly $35 and $25 for seniors and students. Purchase tickets at www.nwnw.org/annual-benefit.

The general community is invited to a block party with coffee and tea beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please bring cookies to share! A raffle will proceed rain or shine! Raffle tickets are $10 each and 3 for $25. To purchase raffle tickets call Angela Southwick at 503-823-4211.

Help the Sunshine Division This Friday and Saturday

Help us earn donations at Portland's Largest Garage Sale!

Unload vehicles and transport their garage sale items to their designated space on Friday. On Saturday, move left over items from spaces to their cars. There is a required donation for $10 for each space we help.

Location: The Portland Expo Center

Date: Friday, April 16

Shifts: 9am to 12pm, 12 to 3pm, and 3 to 7pm

Date: Saturday, April 17

Shift: 5 to 8pm

100% of the donations go to the Portland Police Sunshine Division.

April 14th Springboard Social Innovation Forum: Exploring Impact Investing

Who: Springboard Innovation hosts its monthly Social Innovation Forum on Wednesday, March 14th 2010, from 6-9pm. There is limited space for this month’s event, so RSVP is REQUIRED.

What: Join us as we explore the concepts of impact investing. From socially responsible investing to micro-finance to seed funding social ventures, these strategies have experienced new interest and attention. What's working, what have we learned, and what are the new ideas being brought to the table? We'll dig in to all of this and more. Calling all sewers!

Come out to Hands On Greater Portland's Cares Day “Bink-A-Thon” on Saturday, April 24th and be a part of a blanket-making extravaganza!

Hands On Greater Portland is working with Binky Patrol – Comforting Covers for Kids to rally a brigade of sewing-savvy volunteers to make as many blankets as possible in a half a day. The blankets will then be distributed to children at Northwest Children's Outreach, who serve over 120,000 children in Oregon and Washington.

Madison SUN Needs an Assistant Soccer Coach (Volunteer) !

Madison SUN is in need of a volunteer assistant coach ASAP for our spring soccer league. This volunteer will work with our current coach on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 until she leaves in a month, and possibly take over the team at that time. BACKGROUND: Students come to the SUN Room and Sun classes to learn, have fun and grow. We are starting a spring soccer league this year, giving kids a chance to learn the skills and values that go along with being part of a team. Unfortunately, our soccer coach will be leaving at the end of April. We are in need of someone to assist her with coaching and possibly take over as head coach when she leaves.
