The University of Portland Rummage Sale for student service-learning Nicaragua Immersion program.

Saturday, April 17, 8am to noon, at the U.P. Pilot House Patio (5000 N Willamette Blvd, 97203).

Used bikes, sports equipment, furniture, desks, couches, tables, housewares, kitchen items, books, mini-fridges, microwaves, TVs, and more! Bake sale and possible car wash also on site!

Proceeds support the Nicaragua Immersion, a group of 18 students who will spend three weeks in Nicaragua with Witness for Peace and Seeds of Learning discovering Nicaragua's politics, history, fair trade coffee, organic farming, worker's rights, social services, and also spend time building a school in an impoverished village.

Discovering Oregon's Wildlife

The Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation is pleased to offer a series of talks by Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife biologists about wildlife in Oregon. Admission is free but registration is required. Join us on Wednesday, April 21st for a slideshow discussion about Shira's Moose and the Gray Wolf. Future topics include the Sage Grouse, Black Bear and more!

Nordstrom Children's Tiling Project

It's a tile painting party! Nordstrom has invited Morrison Kids to partner in its Children's Tile Project led by artist Charlie Bigger. On Saturday, April 24, 2010 children ages 5-12, will gather to paint vivid, whimsical tiles to be permanently installed in the floor of the Kids' Wear department at the newly remodeled Nordstrom at Washington Square. Volunteers are needed to check-in, escort, greet and assist with the painting. If you are interested in helping with this worthy and fun event, either in the morning from 8-12:15 or from 1:00-5:15, please send email to [email protected] and someone will contact you.

"Many Shades of Green" Conference: June 17-20, Portland, OR

The Lewis & Clark College Environmental Studies Program will host the 2010 national conference of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) on its campus in SW Portland. This year’s theme, “Many Shades of Green,” reflects the growing diversity of the environmental movement and the spread of “green” thinking into new and more varied venues. The conference will bring together academics, professionals, and students in a three-day program of academic presentations, poster sessions, field trips, art exhibits, workshops, and keynotes.

De Paul Treatment Centers serves the greater Portland community by providing drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. We currently have a full-time opening for a Primary Counselor in our Adult Residential Facility Men’s Program. Counselor position provides professional treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Candidates must be familiar with strength based counseling and have knowledge of dual diagnosis, SOC and MI. MA degree required. CADC preferred. Bilingual and bicultural applicants are encouraged to apply.

All positions at De Paul require 2+ years’ continuous sobriety, if recovering.

De Paul Treatment Centers serves the greater Portland community by providing drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. We currently have a full-time opening for a Family Therapist in our downtown adult facility. This position provides education, treatment and support to both residential and outpatient Drug and Alcohol clients and their families/significant others. Duties include assessment of family history/functioning, family-focused therapy with individuals, couples, families and multi-family group. Masters degree in relevant field required with at least one year of paid and supervised experience doing family therapy. Must be available Saturdays and a minimum of two evenings per week. Experience working with addiction is preferred.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Vancouver is a volunteer-run retail store that raises money for Habitat for Humanity to build homes for low income families. We receive donations of new and used quality building materials and home improvement supplies, and resell it to the public at a low cost.

We have a 20ft box truck, and need volunteers to help us go pick up material donations from homes and businesses. The driver shift is Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30 to about 3:30 (or until the pick-ups are done). We ask that our drivers commit to at least one shift a week (or more if you desire!)

No experience or CDL necessary. Just a clean driving record and a good attitude! You must be able to lift 35lbs, and submit to a background check.

Get outside and volunteer on Saturday for Earth Day!

Celebrate the 40th annual Earth Day with SOLV by volunteering for SOLV IT on Saturday, April 17th from 9 am to 1 pm! Throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington, volunteers will converge at roughly 125 community projects working to clean up litter and illegal dumpsites, remove invasive plants, and enhance watersheds.

Columbia Park Woods Planting and Invasive Removal Project

Be a part of one of the largest Earth Day events in the nation on April 17th and volunteer at Columbia Park Woods in Troutdale. Volunteers will plant 75 trees and remove invasive ivy from the wooded area of the park. This park is an important natural area behind Reynolds High School that is home to birds and other wildlife. This project is taking place as part of SOLV IT, SOLV’s annual Earth Day event and is one of 150 projects going on throughout Oregon!

Classroom Law Project will be celebrating the Honorable Jean Kerr Maurer, Presiding Judge for Multnomah County, at the annual Legal Citizen of the Year Award Dinner on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at The Governor Hotel in Portland.
