The Council for the Homeless in Vancouver, WA is seeking a motivated, self-directed, sociable person to serve as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member in a Coordinator role for the collaborative Winter Hospitality Overflow (WHO) program. The WHO program provides nightly winter shelter to those needing a warm, safe and hospitable environment in Clark County.

The priority of the VISTA volunteer will be increasing the sustainability of the WHO program by recruiting and supporting the program volunteers while building and maintaining lasting partnerships with faith communities, businesses and community organizations.

Literary Arts internship opportunity

Literary Arts seeks an intern to help plan, organize, and produce a Gala fundraiser celebrating the 25th anniversary of Portland Arts & Lectures. The intern’s primary responsibility will be management of a silent auction. This is an excellent opportunity to gain nonprofit event planning experience and to be a key member of a major arts organization.

The Gala will take place on October 11, 2008. We seek a commitment of 8-10 hours per week, July through October. Scheduling is flexible, but the intern must be available during some business hours.

Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."      Can you believe we tore up 3,000 sq ft of asphalt in nary 5 hours??  Way to go!!

Living Well Workshop at MLK Senior Center

Learn real-life skills for living a full, healthy life with an ongoing health condition.

The Living well Workshop was developed by Stanford University for people with a variety of ongoing conditions such as: diabetes, asthma, depression, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, pain, arthritis, HIV/AIDS and other health concerns.  Activities create confidence around regaining control of your life, gaining relief from symptoms, staying active and enjoying life.

This six week program will be held on Wednesdays, beginning on July 23, from 1-3:30 PM.  The program is free to individuals with a chronic condition and their caregivers.
