"In a gay pride march, stunned, I once observed a black, lesbian, immigrant, working class, labor organizer I knew, working the march for signatures on a minimum wage petition. She confronted a white, gay, middle class man I also knew for refusing to sign the petition. She dismissed him as a privileged, insensitive, white boy; and he hurled back - 'its people like you that divide the gay community'."
