The Heart of Now is an experiential workshop focusing on the practice being fully present; with our mind and body, feelings, thoughts, and desires, not only by ourselves, but when we are with others. Nonprofit News

Updated web portal: Managing for improved participation and community engagement

Dear colleagues,

The Learning for Sustainability (LfS) site - http://learningforsustainability.net - has been substantially revised and updated over the past few months as a guide to on-line resources for researchers and practitioners interested in supporting social learning and collective action. The site highlights the wide range of social skills and processes that are needed to support collaborative change initiatives, and structures these in a practical way. This brings links to several hundred annotated on-line resources together in one easy to access site.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

My name is Fran Loosen and I'm a CNRG-er from way back when it was a few friends meeting for potlucks in people's homes. Mad props to the awesome board and the fantastic new website. It's amazing to see how this community is still thriving after so many years!!! Now I am a grad student at the University of Michigan Business School (still working for npos, though) and I am hoping that you can take some time to help me gather information on what's going on in the field.

Presentation: Best Practices for ENERGY STAR® Lighting in New Construction

Best Practices for ENERGY STAR® Lighting in New Construction

There still remain outdated perceptions of fluorescent lighting that have created negative stereotypes around CFLs. Whether an ENERGY STAR builder is using CFLs, ENERGY STAR fixtures or LEDs, there are great quality products available to light the home. When used properly these lights will look better than the standard incandescent lights.

This presentation demonstrates the proper ways to light an ENERGY STAR home in the Northwest for aesthetics and energy savings. The many benefits of fluorescent lighting are explained and outdated perceptions are dispelled as well as some exploration into new LED lighting technologies.
