Growing Veggies Year Round

Luscher Farm August 21, 6:00-8:00pm Cost: $20

Do you like the idea of plucking fresh salad greens, tender broccoli shoots and delicious root vegetables from your garden all winter long? If so, there is no better time than right now to prepare your beds and begin planting. Attend this class and learn how to plan your garden, prepare your soil and protect your plants over the winter. We will go over season extension techniques, from cloches to cold frames that will allow you to extend the garden season beyond the fall and into next spring. With a little planning and some simple techniques, you will learn just how easy “off-season” gardening can be!

Explore Groundwater & Enjoy Lunch at Subs on the Slough - 8/15

Please join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and the Portland Water Bureau for Subs on the Slough - a special picnic lunch at a hidden gem of a canoe launch along the Columbia Slough on Friday, August 15 from 11:30am - 1:00pm.

It’s a great way to meet Slough neighbors and local business people over a great lunch, and to learn about our local groundwater resource and the Groundwater Protection Program that is underway in the Columbia Slough Watershed. After a tour of the canoe launch and a walk along a short section of the 40-mile loop trail, we’ll enjoy lunch in a shaded picnic area. Lunch is provided. Free.
