Free tickets for the premier of "The Visitor"

Premier: April 10 at 7pm at the Fox Tower in Portland.

Catholic Charities has been asked by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network to help generate interest in a new film, The Visitor, which grapples with immigration detention in post-9/11 America. You are invited to attend the Portland premier for free. Family members are invited as well. (The movie is PG-13.) Parent Child Workshop: Starting the Seeds for Your Garden!

Join us on Saturday, April 12 in SE* or Wednesday, April 16 in NE to Start the Seeds for Your Garden!

Parent Child Workshops spark the interest of children aged 6 to 12 in gardening while providing fun ways for parents (aunts, uncles, guardians, grandparents, neighbors) and children to grow gardens together.

Parents and children will learn how to start seeds, care for them, and when to transplant them to have a summer of fresh vegetables. Participants will leave with free seeds and pots to plant in their home gardens or outdoor containers.

2008 International Affairs Symposium on Human Security

"Where People Matter: Navigating the Labyrinth of Human Security" (April 7th - April 9th, 2008)

The Lewis and Clark International Affairs Symposium is a student-run symposium dedicated to exposing the audience to differing perspectives surrounding the most pressing issues in the international relations field.

This year’s symposium is titled “Where People Matter: Navigating the Labyrinth of Human Security" and features sessions on human trafficking, food security, global health, and the balance between environmental protection and individual well-being.

Forest Park Trail Coordinator (2 positions)

The Forest Park Conservancy (formerly Friends of Forest Park) is seeking two dedicated individuals to join our team of four Forest Park Trail Coordinators.

As a Trail Coordinator, you will help maintain and restore existing trails; engage in restoration work; and, help build community through a wide array of projects with volunteers and business partners. You will engage in general community outreach and help recruit volunteers. Much of the work will done in the field, in variable weather conditions, and can be strenuous at times.

Looking for Energetic Volunteers to Teach English!

Are you looking to make a difference in someone's life? Has teaching English to non-native speakers always interested you, but you weren't sure where to start or if you had the necessary experience?

SE Works offers wonderful tutoring opportunities in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Prior tutoring experience is not required (as we provide orientation and training); instead, we require an enthusiasm for teaching and learning, awareness of cultural differences, and good communication skills.

Further qualifications include: 18 years of age or older; a high school degree or GED; able to pass a background check (with proof of identification); fluency in English; work well with other tutors and staff; respect for adult students; a sense of humor
