New Avenues for Youth is a Portland based nonprofit organization whose mission is “to help every youth reach their fullest potential by offering a continuum of outcome-based services that empowers homeless youth to exit street life and that prevents other youth from becoming homeless.”

New Avenues is seeking a detail-oriented self starter who is motivated by social causes and interested in gaining a working knowledge of all aspects of a non-profit organization. The Development & Administrative Assistant will be responsible for many aspects of organizational support, including supporting the development and administrative departments of the organization. The successful candidate will:

• Manage donor database (Raisers Edge) to ensure current and accurate records, reporting, and mailings. • Provide donor database reports as needed and maintenance of donor records. • Track, record, and generate thank you letters for all grant, cash, and in-kind donations. Work with the finance department to reconcile donations on a monthly basis. • Provide support and coordination for fundraising and donor cultivation events. • Assist with grants including general inquiry, gathering required attachments, and submission. • Manage basic office functions including answering phones, greeting visitors, maintaining office supplies, and distributing mail. • Organize and maintain the front office appearance and cleanliness, including maintaining marketing materials and New Avenues literature.

Required Skills and Abilities:Requirements: • Minimum of 2 years experience in an office setting. Non-profit development experience preferred. • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office. Experience with Raisers Edge donor database strongly preferred. • Must be detail oriented, comfortable with multi-tasking, have superior organizational, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, follow procedures, and meet deadlines. • Demonstrate a professional attitude with a high degree of initiative. • Ability to promote the agency to a wide variety of donors, volunteers, staff and board members.
