Cascade AIDS Project (CAP), the largest and oldest AIDS Service Organization serving Oregon and Southwest Washington, seeks a personable and well organized Public Policy Intern. The Internship requires a commitment of a minimum of five hours per week for one-year on-site at the Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) offices. The incumbent will monitor local and federal legislative issues, research policy issues, provide analysis and review of policy issues and as requested, prepare drafts of reports and policies. The Intern will inform appropriate parties of issues needing such actions as sign-ons, call-ins, or letter writing campaigns. The Public Policy Intern will staff the Public Policy Committee of the Board of Directors for Cascade AIDS Project. The Intern will have the opportunity to work across several programmatic areas (i.e. � prevention, care and support) with a consistent focus on public policy. The Intern will have substantial responsibilities to both help organize and co-lead trainings on advocacy for HIV-positive individuals and to ensure an engaged constituency, ready to mobilize to affect policy outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and/or experience related to HIV/AIDS data, programs and services Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Basic skills in use of internet and other resources to identify, research and document issues Demonstrated ability to generate high-quality written products Successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations Skill using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) Proven ability to meet deadlines Available for occasional travel outside of Portland ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

� Regularly monitor list-serves and web-sites related to HIV and AIDS

� Develop and maintain positive relationships with constituents/other stakeholders

� Maintain database of constituents for action alerts

� Mobilize constituents as needed

� Research issue-based topics using the internet and other resources

� Draft policy statements/opinions based on research findings

� Draft and/or edit reports as requested

� Assist in organizing and facilitating Oregon AIDS Leadership Training
