The Temporary Youth Advocate is responsible for implementing the youth support services at the Bradley Angle Emergency Shelter. This is a temporary position to provide staffing support during an employee leave of absence (June 22 – September 31, 2009).

Salary / Pay Rate:$12.55/hour
Required Skills and Abilities:Bilingual Spanish. 1. Intakes and minimum weekly meetings with domestic violence-affected youth living in shelter to provide support 2. Intakes and weekly meetings with parents/guardians of youth in shelter to provide parenting support 3. Case management of families as it relates to youth living in shelter 4. Facilitation of support groups for youth in shelter, bilingual if necessary 5. Translation of new Youth Program paperwork 6. Maintenance of play room and youth program office 7. Maintenance of resources for families and important community contacts 8. Maintenance of appropriate information in family files and communications with Shelter team. 9. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:1. Ability to relate to women and children from diverse backgrounds. 2. Reading and writing skills which include the ability to access and utilize a variety of resource materials in a timely manner and an ability to maintain accurate records. 3. Respectful listening and communication skills. 4. Commitment to working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and knowledge of violence and its effects on society. 5. Commitment to social change-including working to end domestic and sexual violence and all forms of oppression: racism, homophobia, sexism, classism etc. 6. Understanding the linkages between domestic and sexual violence and other forms of oppression. 7. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team. 8. Working knowledge of computers. Additional qualifications for shelter youth advocate: 1. Fluent in Spanish and English. Understanding of Latino/a culture. Bicultural preferred. 2. Minimum of two years experience working with youth. 3. Demonstrated understanding of child development and the specific needs of young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence. 4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of positive, non-violent parenting skills. 5. Reliable transportation to worksite, including in case of emergency. 6. Experience facilitating groups for youth.
