Development Director needed for mental health advocacy organization

POSITION OPEN: Development Director - Mental Health Association of Portland

This is a new part-time position.  Salary will be a percentage of received gifts. The development director for the Mental Health Association of Portland is responsible for providing funds for a coalition of organizations and their summary projects.  The organization is dedicated to support and advocacy for people diagnosed with mental illness. The Development Director will work with board members and volunteers to develop strategy and directly raise funds for innovative clinical and art-based projects. JOB DESCRIPTIONResponsible for planning and implementing a fundraising strategy to secure resources for several programs. Provide expertise related in general to fundraising, including direct mail and direct email, grants management, special events, e-philanthropy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Plan and organize small special event* Create a grant submission schedule, prepare queries, proposals, reports* Donor stewardship and correspondence* Create a direct mail and e-philanthropy fundraising strategy

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in public administration, journalism, communications, business administration, or related field

Understanding of local nonprofit organizations, foundations and basic fundraising principlesPossess excellent computer skills- including basic office software, and web applications

Project management experience

Ability to work independently and maintain an active yet self-motivated pace

Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and varied tasksDemonstrate excellent speaking and writing skillsExperience with people from diverse lifestyles and cultures, including sensitivity to mental health and diversity issues

Excellent ability to work as a team member
