PDX Nonprofit Tech Day On, Hands On at OSBridge

WHEN:6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday (6/17) and Thursday (6/18)

WHERE: Hacker Lounge at Hilton Portland & Executive Tower, 921 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland, OR

*The Hacker Lounge is located at the top of the Hilton Hotel

NTEN PDX 501 Tech Club and PDX NetTuesday joined forces with Day On to bring live technology help desks to local nonprofits, hosting our first joint event in March. Day On connects nonprofit organizations that need advice and assistance with volunteers who are ready to help. They have agreed to offer their brain power for a higher calling yet again!

We're back on with DayOn this Wednesday and Thursday! We know, we know, it's short notice but we hope that you'll be able to take advantage on this fabulous opportunity to talk about your technology projects with the fabulous geeks from DayOn. We'll be setting up shop at the OSBridge Conference, a new conference for developers working with open source technologies and for people interested in learning the open source way.

When: 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday (6/17) and Thursday (6/18) Where: Hacker Lounge, Hilton Hotel

The following questions are ones that we'll be staffed to address (and if not then, we'll definitely match you up for a future meeting.)

  • I need help on my overall website strategy and goals.
  • What is a Content Management System (CMS) and should I be using one?
  • Should I be using a wireframe (or how do I use one)?
  • How do I set up ecommerce on my site?
  • How do I find someone to help me fix my website?
  • Should I start a blog?
  • How can I add a blog to my website?
  • How would I use new-fangled, Web 2.0 social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace or Twitter to support my organization?
  • What's an "RSS" feed and how do I add one to my website?
  • How can I integrate my database or Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) System with my website?

It will help but it is not necessary to think about these questions in relation to your technology project:

  • Who will implement this project?
  • What is the budget for the project?

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP at NetSquared.MeetUp.com. You're welcome to just show up but to make sure you stay in the loop for more last minute details, please let us know that you'll be able to join us.
