position summary:

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, in Ashland, OR, is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, detail oriented person to serve as Preschool Community Network Coordinator for our new preschool exhibit, Discovery Island. This is a part-time OSSC/AmeriCorps position.

Duties: Develop and implement programs and activities for preschool age children, parents and teachers, around the following topics: brain development, parenting, health and nutrition, safety, etc. Develop resources for parents to be posted on ScienceWorks’ website. Develop and implement programs/activities for teachers of preschool age children both on-site and off-site. Assist in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to implement programs. Maintain communication between parents of the network and ScienceWorks. Represent ScienceWorks to the community at events. Complete administrative duties needed to schedule and implement these programs.

This is a part-time, eleven month position through the OSSC/AmeriCorps program running from 8/24/2009 – 7/15/2010. Candidate must be able to complete all requirements as outlined by OSSC/AmeriCorp.

Salary / Pay Rate:Through AmeriCorps service with the Oregon State Service Corps program, members will receive a living allowance and education award of $2,352.50, upon completion of service year.
Qualifications:ScienceWorks is looking for an individual with strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills; background in early childhood education; an interest in recruiting and supporting volunteers; a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends; and a bachelors degree.
