Financial Counselor

Purpose: To ensure the provision of high quality one-on-one counseling and educational services for clients of the Community Housing Resource Center (CHRC) in Vancouver, WA.

Supervisor: Executive Director

Major Responsibilities:

• Deliver high quality counseling services for Foreclosure Prevention/Loss Mitigation services for homeowners; and Debt Management, Credit Repair and Budget counseling and education services for individuals who want to improve their financial situation and/or become homeowners.

• Assess clients by collecting and analyzing client information including income, credit reports, assets, debts and other personal financial information.

• Provide counseling services, which includes setting appointments, interviewing clients, collecting client data, developing client work plans, making follow-up calls and scheduling additional counseling appointments as needed.

• Counsel renters and homeowners on options to best meet their financial and housing needs and goals.

• Maintain Home Counselor Online (HCO), the agency’s client database tracking system, client files and the confidentiality of client information.

• Prepare monthly and quarterly client data for the Executive Director and Program Manager who will analyze and report data to the Board and all funders.

• Review client service evaluations, drawing on customer feedback and evaluation forms with Program Manager regularly. Make changes as needed.

• Participate in the Center’s Program Advisory Committee, the Hispanic Resource Group and work closely with the Program Manager and Center volunteers to coordinate and deliver quality program education and counseling services.

• Market the Center’s program services to the community.

• Assist the Program Manager to facilitate educational workshops as needed.

Skills and Experience Required:

● Provide excellent customer service.

● Professional experience in mortgage lending and/or housing and financial counseling in a nonprofit organization.

● Possess a high degree of organizational skills.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills. Bilingual written and spoken skills in Spanish are required.

● Working knowledge of audio/visual equipment, computers and Microsoft Office.

● Professional experience working with diverse populations and volunteers.

● Experienced in community outreach, marketing, and public relations.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Occasional standing and computer work for extended periods. Some lifting required (20-40 lbs.). Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Valid driver’s license and travel with own insured vehicle is periodically required.
