OMSI Development Internship

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a Development Intern.  This is an unpaid position which offers the successful candidate the opportunity to learn more about fundraising through corporate and individual giving programs at a major non-profit organization.  This position is available in mid-August, with applications being accepted immediately, and will remain open until filled.

position summary:

The Development Intern provides support for both the Individual Giving and Corporate Giving Directors with their respective giving programs - President’s Circle and Corporate Partner membership programs. 

essential duties and responsibilities:

Update and maintain Raiser’s Edge database of donors and prospects, namely contacts, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Arrange appointments with donors and prospects for the directors as needed

Assist with renewal mailings of President’s Circle and Corporate Partner membership programs.

Assist with prospect mailings for both President’s Circle and Corporate Partner membership programs.

Automate the President’s Circle and Corporate Partner renewal processes, and stewardship processes utilizing the database management tool Raiser’s Edge.

Prepare catering orders and coordinate with appropriate museum departments to facilitate on-site donor and prospect meetings.

Attend and provide assistance at events and meetings as needed.

Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Individual Giving and Corporate Giving Directors.

Able to follow detailed instructions.

Able to evaluate marketing packets for quality control.

Able to maintain confidentiality.

Able to present a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor in a variety of atmospheres.

Must maintain a professional appearance.

Dependable and punctual.

Self-directed and willing to take initiative.

Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures.

preferred skills

Experience with PC systems – Word, Excel, or other database software.

Data entry skills:  Typing; 10-key a plus.

commitment:

Three month minimum (preferably six months)

15 hour per week minimum (preferably 30-40 hours per week)
