Camp Fire USA Portland Metro Council Position Posting: Morning and Afternoon Site Instructors for Portland Public School District Afterschool Programs (Sunnyside, Creative Science, Beverly Cleary Fernwood, Beverly Cleary Hollyrood and The Roost Middle School Program)

General Description: • Part time Morning Positions: 6am to 9am (16-18 hours per week) • Part time Afternoon Positions: 2-6pm (20-25 hrs/wk.) • Position focused on developing and facilitating Camp Fire after-school activities for students in grades K-8 (K-1 at Hollyrood, 6-8 at The Roost).

Instructor will work directly with the Camp Fire Site Manager, community members, school staff and students. Site Instructors are responsible for planning and teaching sequenced lessons in classroom and other school settings for up to 15 students at a time.

Camp Fire strives to achieve youth development outcomes by engaging youth in activities of Service and Leadership, Active Recreation, Creative Arts and Academic Support.

Salary / Pay Rate:$11-12.50 DOE
Required Skills and Abilities:Qualities/Experience Needed: • Ability to commit to one full school year while working in a cooperative manner with members of a team • Previous experience instructing in an afterschool program environment that involved solo teaching, lesson planning, and behavior management for elementary students • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds • Ability to communicate needs and concerns to Site Manager and coworkers • Open to receiving feedback and making ongoing program adjustments • Ability to prioritize, manage stress levels and proactively solve problems • High level of professionalism, creativity, energy, organization, self-motivation, empathy, and patience • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and maintain satisfactory energy levels for duration of programming and lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds • Applicants from diverse backgrounds encouraged to apply **All staff participates in 40 paid training hours before the program begins and additional paid professional development throughout the year
Qualifications:Responsibilities include: • Direct instruction of students in an after school program setting while maintaining program expectations and behavior management with groups of 8-15 students • Create project based learning activities from given resources and actively engage students in learning • Work in collaboration with team on program planning, team communication, behavior management, and overall site success • Timely submission of written lesson plans, service learning plans and supply needs (Instructors receive paid planning and prep time weekly) • Work within school policies, confidentiality requirements and understand behavioral referral system • Develop positive working relationships with students, families, school staff To Apply: Bring a cover letter, resume and 3 references to the Camp Fire office sometime between the hours of 9:30-3:30 on Wednesday July 29th.
