position summary:

Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is seeking a talented individual to act as the AmeriCorps*VISTA Communication Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities:

-Produce our quarterly printed Habitat Newsletter, as well as assist in the production of marketing and promotion materials. -Streamline our Constant Contact e-communication by editing and writing our five e-newsletters that cater to different groups of community partners. -Conduct field research, interviewing and photographing relevant community partners as well as current, past and future families to get in-depth family stories to use for our website, newsletters and statistics. -Assist with the coordination and promotion of builds and special events, including creating e-vites, signage and press releases. -Recruit a sustainable volunteer committee of photographers and designers to significantly improve the image of the affiliate through professional family, sponsor and volunteer photos for the website, signage, and e-communications as well as maintain our photography gallery. -Develop and continue to improve our interactive website that will attract volunteers, donors and future homeowners. -Spearhead and manage a new marketing campaign to promote Habitat's Cars for Homes and Gifts that Build program. -Research and implement new ways to promote Habitat through social media, such as Facebook and Twitter. -Work with the grants manager to compile national housing data, seeing how it relates to health, education and the environment and compile statistics and information that will be instrumental in the messaging of a public relations campaign. -Graphic design/layout and other duties as assigned relevant to these projects and the Communications department.

Habitat AmeriCorps VISTA members commit to 12 months of service and receive a minimal living allowance.

Benefits include: living allowance, health benefits, in-service training opportunities, post-service $4,725 Education Award or $1,200 cash stipend, and childcare allowance. Positions begin in August and require a one-year commitment. The living allowance amount can range from $833/month to $1230/month gross depending on the VISTA service location. A member may not receive any additional monetary compensation beyond the standard allowances for services rendered as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member; VISTA members are also prohibited from any outside employment while serving.

Required Skills and Abilities:Requirements: -Knowledge of and commitment to Habitat for Humanity's mission. -Computer program knowledge: intermediate knowledge of Adobe CS 4 and Microsoft Office required. Strong Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator skills are desirable. -Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. Knowledge of AP Style a plus. -Strong web navigation skills with a special interest in website functionality, web-based research, working with technology and exploring the Internet. -Interest in research and data analysis. -Strong organizational skills. -Can work independently and manage multiple deadlines. -Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Qualifications:-Bachelor's degree in communication or journalism, preferred. -Age 18 or older. -A U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
