Fall Workshops at The ReBuilding Center

The ReBuilding Center’s Workshops explore new possibilities for used building materials. During each workshop, community craft and tradespersons teach hands on skills to empower students to create their own reuse projects.

Sculpture from Reclaimed Materials

This three day workshop will explore the basics of common building techniques as a means to create sculptural art. Students will observe brief demonstrations in a variety of construction methods and will use these techniques to create a number of small sculptural studies. Students will leave this class with a better understanding of their built environment and a new perspective on the artistic potential of common building materials.

Tuition: $85

Wed Sept 9, 6-8pm, Sat Sept 12 & Sun Sept 13, 10am-4pm

Found Object Printmaking

Exploration of fundamental, non-traditional and invented printmaking techniques to create prints from found materials. Print from the inventory of found objects available at The ReBuilding Center.  Students will seek out existing patterns, fabricated textures, interesting shapes or materials and learn how to pull a print by hand.  For all skill levels.

Tuition: $65

$10 material fee made payable to the instructor the first day of class

Table Building Techniques

Build a small side table from salvaged wood in this three day workshop.  Learn how to make a useful and simple furniture piece with few materials and connections. The class will focus on the use of hand tools and the bandsaw, while learning a simple joinery connection.

Wed Oct 14, 6:30-8pm, Sat Oct 17 & Sun Oct 18, 12-5pm

Tuition: $85

Introduction to Traditional Joinery

In this 5 week class, students will learn to build a small solid wood table from scratch.  Milling, joinery and other woodworking techniques will be demonstrated as well as the safe and proper use of power and shop tools including the jointer, tablesaw and router.  Prior shop tool/ power tool experience strongly recommended.

5 wk class Oct 24-Nov 21, Saturdays 10am-4pm
