The Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation (FCCP) brings together grantmakers who are committed to enhancing democratic involvement in all dimensions of civic life. FCCP believes that a vibrant and inclusive democracy is critical to the health of our country. The organization serves leaders in the philanthropic community working to further this vision with heightened attention to issues of equity and historically disenfranchised and underrepresented communities. Its members support non‐partisan efforts to engage voters, eliminate structural barriers to voting, advance reforms to improve government and electoral systems, and inspire public involvement in civic life. FCCP has been a driving force in the donor community for over twenty years.

FCCP is a project of Public Interest Projects (PIP), a 501(c)(3) public charity that operates grantmaking, technical assistance and strategic planning programs for institutional and individual donors interested in social justice and human rights issues.

The Program and Communications Director is a full-time position which will direct FCCP’s program work and provide oversight and direction for the organization’s internal and external communications. A primary responsibility will include staffing the State Infrastructure Funders’ Table (SIFT) which aims to support the development of sustainable civic infrastructure at the state level by promoting focused experimentation and learning in the field and communicating with and conducting outreach to funders. Other FCCP programming includes two major donor convenings per year, monthly First Monday briefing calls and other special initiatives. In addition, this position will oversee FCCP’s website, member communications and materials development.

Knowledge of and experience with philanthropy, organizational development, state‐based coalitions/collaborations, issue campaigns, non‐partisan voter engagement efforts and broader democracy issues are important to the position. This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

Salary / Pay Rate:Commensurate with experience
Required Skills and Abilities:The Program and Communications Director will fulfill these responsibilities by working closely with the executive director, the administrative coordinator (for website and member communications) and the program associate (programming). Organizational Leadership, Vision and Direction - Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, products and services that successfully advance FCCP’s mission. - Helps track national, regional and local trends in civic/voter engagement. - Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with colleague affinity groups, regional associations of grantmakers and other philanthropic trade institutions. - Seeks ways to serve as a resource to the larger grantmaking community and fosters cooperative programming. Program - Leads the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of selected FCCP programs including but not limited to the State Infrastructure Funders’ Table, annual conferences and all phone briefings. Manages committee and conference budgets. - Special projects as assigned. Information Resources and Communications - Develops resource materials and dissemination plans. - Supervises production and editorial content of FCCP website, e‐newsletter, publications and brochures. Writes promotional and selected development materials. - Works with the administrative coordinator to oversee website management and maintenance; coordinates member forum discussion web pages. Skills and Qualifications - Ability to develop and implement innovative and strategic programs. - Ability to work with funders representing a broad range of interests, facilitate decision making and help move them to shared vision. - Excellent facilitation and problem solving skills. - Knowledge of issues and trends related to civic/voter engagement and democracy issues. - Ability to recruit and support funders to help lead and mold FCCP’s work. - Working knowledge of the field of philanthropy. - Working knowledge of voter engagement campaigns, issue or political campaigns and/or building membership organizations that organize and move a policy agenda. - Excellent writing and communication skills; good editorial skills. - Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen effectively. Great sense of humor required! - Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, including balancing multiple needs and interests. - Excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and desktop publishing. - Experience with writing for and managing a website and creating associated tools and communication vehicles. - Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a small team in a fast‐paced environment with high standards for quality. - Ability to travel.
Qualifications:- Minimum five years experience in project management, a statewide organization/coalition or a philanthropic organization. - Three years experience in a position with primary communications oversight. - Experience working on civic engagement/voter engagement activities preferred. - Ability to develop and implement innovative and strategic programs. - Ability to work with funders representing a broad range of interests, facilitate decision making and help move them to shared vision. - Excellent facilitation and problem solving skills. - Knowledge of issues and trends related to civic/voter engagement and democracy issues. - Ability to recruit and support funders to help lead and mold FCCP’s work. - Working knowledge of the field of philanthropy. - Working knowledge of voter engagement campaigns, issue or political campaigns and/or building membership organizations that organize and move a policy agenda. - Excellent writing and communication skills; good editorial skills. This is a senior full-time position with generous benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience. This position can be located anywhere in the country. Currently FCCP maintains an office in Portland, Oregon and its fiscal sponsor is Public Interest Projects central office is located in New York.
