Families deserve more - East Portland 11-3-09

Creating a Stronger East Portland for Everyone!

Meeting Tuesday, November 3, Noon in East Portland  www.rosecdc.org for Event Flyer or Event Press Release

WHAT:    ROSE Community Development - a nonprofit neighborhood revitalization organization serving outer southeast Portland - is launching a more expansive effort to reach out to communities in East Portland.  We are holding the East Portland Enhancement Project (EP2) kick-off meeting to announce our new goals and outcomes and to gather new partners (flyer attached).  We are asking for participation from a number of organizations, businesses, individuals and community groups to come together to help make East Portland a better place to live.

Over 1/4 of the population in Portland resides in East Portland.  East Portland is becoming increasingly diverse compared to areas west of 82nd Avenue.  As population increases so does poverty.   East Portland deserves to have the same opportunities that exist in other parts of Portland.

The East Portland Enhancement Project (EP2) is centered on three themes “Strong Connections. Healthy Families. Economic Opportunities.” The EP2 grew out of the Lents Homeownership Initiative (LHI).  In 2005 ROSE brought together a group of nonprofit, public and private sector organizations to form LHI.  LHI’s mission was to increase homeownership and improve the livability in the Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Area.

Since 2005, the Lents Homeownership Initiative partners (over 50 partners) created more than 300 new homeowners, contributed to increasing resident satisfaction by 23%, completed over 418 home repairs, and hosted more than 190 community building and neighborhood improvement events.
