Winter Shelter Development Coordinator * AmeriCorps VISTA

Ever wish you could do something meaningful to help those who are homeless? And to do it as part of a diverse, dynamic and creative team?

Share of Vancouver, WA, is seeking a motivated, dynamic person to serve as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member in a Development Coordinator role for the collaborative Winter Hospitality Overflow (WHO) program which provides up to 74 shelter beds nightly in the winter months when residential shelters are full.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Position Description- Development Coordinator for the WHO Program

The priority of the Share AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer will be increasing the sustainability of the WHO program so that guests may continue to find safety and warmth in the winter months. The VISTA will focus on outreach and development through the building and maintaining of partnerships in the community.

Other goals include: • Creating a tool-kit for outreach in the community

• Soliciting faith based donations and applying for community grants

• Working with program volunteers and staff to develop marketing materials that connect WHO volunteers with the issue of housing and homelessness

• Collaborating with local businesses or organizations to increase the amount of food donations for the WHO program

• Presenting the WHO program and the issue of homelessness to community organizations, faith communities and businesses in a way that engages them as part of the solution.

Qualifications: • Availability to serve as a full time (40+ hours/week) member • Experience with fund development, grant-writing or soliciting donations • Experience in community outreach • Experience in project and/or program development and assessment • Prior experience working with individuals or families who are homeless or low-income • Experience in public speaking, training and/or marketing • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively • Ability to exhibit empathy when working with individuals who are homeless • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills • Self-motivated, organized, creative and resourceful • Ability to use a personal vehicle for mileage reimbursed workday travel • MS office proficiency • Four year degree (2 year degree can be substituted with 2 years of social service experience). • Experience managing volunteers and/or coordinating volunteer programs preferred • Second language skills preferred
