Employment and Training Specialist part-time

Position Opening Community Solutions is seeking a part time (less than 19 hours per week) Employment and Training Specialist to provide job search assistance to TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) clients in a resource room environment.

Compensation $18.40 per hour

Hours Monday-Thursday TBD- not to exceed 18.5 hours per week

Position Summary: The Employment and Training Specialist provides comprehensive job search assistance and assessment to clients receiving public assistance (TANF). This position works closely with the Job Development Specialists and other human services personnel in identifying client skills and matching to jobs in the community. We need someone with a broad range of workforce preparation skills who desires to work with our clients in overcoming employment challenges, and who has a working knowledge of labor trends, job search tools and techniques and the fundamentals of job skills training. This position is located in the State Department of Human Services branch offices in Oregon City and Clackamas.

Essential Responsibilities: Conduct employment related workshops Teach job search goal setting, skills identification; resume writing, appropriate workplace behavior, communication and coping. Assist Oregon Employment Department (Worksource Clackamas) staff in helping clients register for iMatch Skills Work 1 on 1 with clients to develop job search plans Input job search data into data base, run reports, analyze for accuracy Follow up with clients who are not following through with job search plans Train as back-up to workshop trainer Conduct interview practice workshop Provide support and encouragement to clients in job search activities

Qualifications: Knowledge of occupations and labor market trends Creative ability to market job search services through flyers, posters, presentations to groups of case managers Experience finding appropriate job leads for clients Ability to take direction and to work as part of an interdisciplinary team Ability to work with little direct supervision Ability and skill to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with the community, with other staff and with clients Ability to communicate clearly and effectively Ability and skill to relate to a wide variety of people of varying ages, socioeconomic backgrounds and needs Skill to exercise independent judgment and make decisions within established policies and procedures Skill to operate computer software and other office equipment Skill in presenting job search work shop material Ability to be flexible a must Must present as a positive, professional role model for our clients

Other Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive per Clackamas County driving policy and successfully passing a criminal history check. Some positions require a pre-employment drug test.
