BAC is currently soliciting resumes for the position Benefit Outreach Specialist. We have 4 potential positions. The position assists homeless persons with obtaining and/or keeping Social Security Disability Benefits. BAC provides compassionate service, helping people to navigate the difficult application procedures. Our Specialists will be mobile, bringing support to those in need throughout the City of Portland.

Salary / Pay Rate:Starting at $34,000. Benefits: Medical & dental benefits for employee and all dependents, 403(b), Flex Plan, paid vacation.
Required Skills and Abilities:• Must be comfortable working with a population challenged by addictions, disorders, emotional management issues, and chronic homelessness. • Coordinate and provide transportation to individuals, helping them meet appointment times and gather important documentation necessary to the Social Security application. • A working knowledge of Social Security procedures will be useful. • Attend regular meetings with BAC staff focused on developing ways to improve and orchestrate a growing organization. • Maintain narrative and required data regarding services provided.
Qualifications:• Must be self-motivated and have demonstrated ability to work well in an unstructured, often hectic, team environment. • Experience building trust relationships and collaborative efforts with diverse individuals and organizations. • Experience working with people who are homeless or facing similar challenges. • Knowledge of existing service resources and public benefits programs application. • Demonstrated knowledge of employment training and acquisition processes. • Commitment to non-violence and holistic responses. • Ability to work with or learn computer data entry programs and Office Suite software. • Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided. • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.; position involves regular moving of equipment to all parts of the City. • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and reliable personal vehicle required. • Proficiency in more than one language a plus.
