Best Merchant Services?

Our organization has events where we sell tickets and merchandise, and we want to be able to authorize and accept credit cards. We do not have reliable internet access at our venues, so we will need a wireless card swiper for this purpose. We also receive donations where credit card info is provided, but cards are not available, so we will need to be able to key in those transactions.

I am having difficulty getting unbiased reviews and straightforward pricing information. Most of the online review sites seem to be (pretty obviously) underwritten by the merchant services providers themselves. 

I would be very grateful for any feedback about experiences with merchant service providers and recommendations both about good providers, and about sources of free, objective, and intelligent advice about what questions to ask potential providers and how to assess their integrity.
