Rug Sale Fundraiser for CASA For Children and Friends of the Children

Local children’s charities, CASA For Children and Friends of the Children, partner to host “Carpet Diem for Kids,” an import rug sale fundraiser on December 10, 11, and 12, 2009.

James Opie will be donating more than 1,000 rugs from his private collection to sell at “Carpet Diem for Kids.” Rugs from all over the world will be made available to the public for purchase at deeply discounted prices. Sale proceeds will be split evenly between both charities.

The sale will be held at 535 SW 6th Avenue (SW 6th & Alder) during the following times:

• PREVIEW SALE: Thursday, December 10th – 5 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. $25 suggested donation.

• GENERAL SALE: Friday, December 11th – 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 12th – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

ABOUT THE RECIPIENT CHARITIES:

CASA For Children advocates for the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected and are under the protection of the Juvenile Courts in Multnomah and Washington Counties. Our purpose is to secure a safe and permanent family for each child as quickly as possible. www.casahelpskids.org

Friends of the Children provides Portland’s most at-risk youth with a full-time, professionally trained mentor. Children are provided a mentor in kindergarten and support them for 12½ years, until high school graduation. www.friendsofthechildren.org/Portland

About donor, James Opie: Humanitarian and author of Tribal Rugs, James Opie is known for his rug import sales and expertise. Mr. Opie has spent much of his adult life traveling to Afghanistan and other regions where rugs are prevalent cultural expressions and has worked to establish a conscientious rug import practice and to help raise monies to benefit those regions through charities, such as Mercy Corps.
