position summary:

Fruit and Flower Childcare Center seeks an Executive Director to manage the overall programs and operations in support of the organizational mission and goals. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors, manage staff and volunteers, guide agency-wide direction and focus, be the voice for promoting to the greater community and ensure that the organization has sufficient financial and human resources to meet its mission.

The 2009-10 budget is $ 1,700,00.00 and the organization employs 45 full and part-time staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serves as the primary spokesperson for Fruit & Flower goals; assures the organization and its mission, programs and services are consistently presented in strong positive ways to the community, funders, and other organizations.

• Responsible for interviewing, assigning work, supervising, appraising and, when necessary, terminating staff. Ongoing oversight and supervision of specific programs and staff positions may be delegated to others. Assures that all employment related policies and procedures are implemented in compliance with all state, federal and local requirements, including the personnel policies and union contracts of the organization.

• Oversees the development and maintenance of sound financial practices; oversees the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget; ensures that the organization has adequate funds to meet the intent of the mission and operates within the Board of Directors approved annual budget.

• With the Board of Directors and staff, develops and monitors the long-range plan that defines goals for the organization and specific means to achieve those goals.

• Builds and maintains the organizations’ relationships with the Childcare/Early Childhood community

• Provides the Board of Directors with information, guidance and support that leads to the development and implementation of effective planning and policies; prepares recommendations for approval of contracts and other matters requiring Board attention; supports the Board in recruitment and leadership development.

Required Skills and Abilities:Required Skills & Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area required; 4+ years of executive level experience that includes: administration, planning, budgeting, and personnel management of a nonprofit organization or a substantial nonprofit program • Demonstrated ability to motivate employees and work effectively with a nonprofit Board of Directors to achieve organizational excellence • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization or program through change and growth • Excellent oral and written communications skills with diverse audiences • Understanding of and commitment to issues of cultural diversity related to early childhood development Preferred Skills & Experience • Prior experience as a Senior manager in a child care center based program • Successful fundraising experience • Experience with labor relations and working with Unions
