Sewing Machines Invade the Malls

During the day on Saturdays 12/12 and 12/19, Surfrider Foundation, PDX Chapter and Leave No Plastic Behind/Create Plenty are working collaboratively to demonstrate the Japanese art of furoshiki and the art of making a bag from an under-used t-shirt...IN MALLS. This will support the Surfrider Ban the Bag outreach campaign. It will also spread awareness about the issue of plastic in our environment and how becoming less dependent on the material can contribute to well-being. Shifts available are 11:30-3 and 3-6:30 p.m. on 12/12 at Westfield Mall in Vancouver and 11:30-4 p.m. on 12/19 at Jantzen Beach Mall.

Bring a sewing machine, 36" square pieces of fabric, your under-worn t-shirts and/or yourself. The more we have the bigger our bang. You'll learn more about these two *rad* organizations and receive a free Ban the Bag t-shirt/bag. This will be a festive way to reach out during the holidays! No experience necessary. Contact [email protected] for further information and to RSVP.
