POSITION OVERVIEW

This position supports the overall goals and objectives of BRO’s fundraising program through the development and coordination of community-based events. In addition, this position will oversee the annual direct mail and telefunding programs. The Community Events Specialist reports to the Development Director and works closely with the development and finance team, with our fundraising consultants, and with our volunteer base.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Regional Events and House Parties (40%) Regional Events  Recruit volunteer planning committees for events; maintain relationships with existing committee members and identify new leaders to join committees.  Support volunteer committees in achieving goals and executing events. Manage planning checklist and timelines with committees.  Provide necessary materials for planning purposes (mailing list, host committee kits, and day-of-event supplies) House Parties  Develop and execute strategy for identifying and outreach to recruit hosts.  Manage planning checklist and timelines with host.  Provide necessary materials for planning purposes (mailing list, host kits and day –of-event supplies)

Major event series support (25%)  Provide administrative support for management of event data.  Assist in outreach to sponsor prospects.

Direct Mail and Telefunding (20%)  Draft and oversee written appeals and partner with print vendor to plan mailing.  Plan and execute volunteer phone banks (identify and train volunteer leaders, draft necessary materials, oversee phone bank shifts)

Third Party Events (10%)  Develop prospect list and strategy for outreach to business community.  Provide necessary support and communication to event host.  Ensure organization is represented at events as needed (staff, volunteers, etc.)

Other duties (5%)  Administrative responsibilities including (but not limited to) communication with vendors, volunteers, donors, media and community leaders regarding day-to-day business via phone, email and written correspondence.

Salary / Pay Rate:Salary commensurate with experience. Medical and dental provided. Paid time off includes 15 days annually. In addition, employees observe 10 paid holidays annually.
Required Skills and Abilities:QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have:  2-3 years nonprofit fundraising experience.  Proven experience as a successful fundraising events manager.  Commitment to social justice, especially to ending homophobia and transphobia.  Commitment to building a multi-racial team; experience working in multi-racial environments.  Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work as part of a fast-paced team; and to prioritize and manage a variety of projects simultaneously.  Strong writing and editing skills.  Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.  Strong verbal communication skills.  High level of computer literacy – managing spreadsheets, tracking data and interfacing with Web 2.0 tools; experience with Auction Pay event software a plus.  Ability to self-motivate, self-direct, and manage multiple projects simultaneously, as well as a commitment to teamwork and a sense of humor.
