Zenger Farm Spring Education Internship

Farm Educator Internship Spring 2010 Zenger Farm, Portland, Oregon Closes Friday February 5th or when filled. Interviews will be held as application materials are received.

Become a part of the Zenger Farm education team and spend this spring outdoors teaching children at a beautiful farm right in Portland, Oregon. Come and get dirty!

Zenger Farm is a small organic urban vegetable farm and wetland. We offer field trip programming to people of all ages, preschool to adult. As a Farm Educator Intern you will gain the skills to lead our hands-on, inquiry based field trip programs. Topic areas include plants, wetland ecology, healthy food, natural history, soils, compost, worms, and more.

Responsibilities: - Lead Farm Field Trip Programming - Assist with farm duties - Special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements: - Open to 3rd and 4th year college students or recent graduates who are interested in teaching outdoors about farming, food, and natural history of the region - Must enjoy working with children - Positive, can do attitude - Ability to work in a farm setting, lifting, digging, using hand tools - Background in outdoor education and gardening or farming practices preferred

Time Commitment: - Preferred start date is February 22nd, 2010. Later start date is negotiable - Ten to 40 hours a week until June 11th, 2010. - Weekly time commitment and end date will be discussed with each applicant to meet the needs of the Intern and Zenger Farm.

As a Zenger Farm Intern you will receive: - College credit (check with your school). - Experience teaching and developing outdoor education programs - Knowledge of the natural history of the region - Knowledge of farming practices in the Pacific Northwest. - Potential to extend internship through summer 2010
