position summary: | Description: Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) is the leading provider of HIV prevention, education, housing, advocacy and support services in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We are seeking a full time HIV Prevention Specialist to conduct HIV counseling and testing, outreach and recruitment, HIV prevention programming, and community organizing with primarily African American/Black men who have sex with men. This position reports to the Manager of Education Services. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in human/social services field (social work, public or community health, psychology) or related field or 2 years of experience working in human services Experience conducting outreach and/or community organizing with MSM of color and other hard to reach communities Demonstrated computer and keyboard proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and working knowledge of the internet including internet chat rooms Excellent written and verbal communication skills Successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations Strong understanding of gay/bi men’s issues and how they affect or influence service delivery Strong understanding of African American/Black MSM culture and issues and how they affect or influence HIV prevention efforts Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with community stakeholders Ability to work independently with accountability; exercise sound judgment and discretion Must be available to work evenings and weekends Preferred Qualifications: Previous professional or volunteer experience working in HIV prevention Previous experience conducting HIV counseling and testing Knowledge of behavioral health models Previous experience implementing the Mpowerment intervention Previous experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers Closing Date: Monday, January 11th, 2010 – 5:00pm NOTE: This is a union represented position. Salary / Pay Rate: | $29,101 - $36,709 annually (1.0 FTE) depending on experience; employer-paid health, dental, vision, long-term disability and life insurance; 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer matching contribution, 125C cafeteria savings plan; generous vacation and health leave benefits. |
