Like sewing? Make blankets for children on MLK Day 2010!

Like sewing? Want to help homeless families this January? Come out to the MLK Day “Bink-A-Thon” on January 18th and be a part of a blanket-making extravaganza!

The United Way and Hands On Greater Portland are working with Binky Patrol – Comforting Covers for Kids to rally a brigade of sewing-savvy volunteers to make as many blankets as possible in a half a day. The blankets will then be distributed to children and families at Washington County’s Project Homeless Connect at the end of January. This project is part the United Way’s initiative to get over 2,000 volunteers out on dozens of projects in the four-county area over MLK Weekend 2010.

For project information or to sign up, visit: http://bit.ly/sewing-machine-blanket-brigade (for those with sewing machines) http://bit.ly/make-blankets-for-children (for those without)

We need folks to bring their sewing machines and sew, as well as those without a machine who can come help pin, tie-off, cut fabric, and more! We hope to get over 50 volunteers together to make as many blankets as possible in a half a day. The project is from 10-2 for sewers and 10:45 to 3pm for helpers and takes place in Beaverton, near public transit (address provided upon sign-up).

Hope to see you there!
