position summary:

The National Organizer will primarily work to implement grassroots volunteer recruitment, training and coaching, and community engagement support services focused on local and nationally youth driven campaigns focused on climate change and energy policy.

This spring, Focus the Nation (FTN) will continue their Clean Energy Forum (CEF) campaign, in conjunction with other key partners in the youth climate movement, to support youth organizers (Ages 18 – 28) engaging their community, their senators and leaders in the business sector. Focus Organizers will organize CEFs to promote civil discussions on the local stakes surrounding clean energy and climate legislation, and engage local and national leadership on how these stakes relate to the national and international policy debate.

We are looking for an excited and experienced organizer to contribute to this important work; someone who is ready to hit the ground running.

Salary / Pay Rate:Starting Salary $26,500, Health Benefits, FSA Health Option, Position is secure through April 2010
Required Skills and Abilities:Responsibilities · Identify, mobilize, and build relationships with volunteer organizers nationwide · Support these organizers in planning strategic multi-sector clean energy forums with legislators and their constituents to address clean energy solutions · Offer training to community organizers remotely and/or in person. · Work with partner organizations on a regional and state level to cross-promote action and programs. · Contribute to Focus the Nation's goal to engage a inter-generational population of volunteers and communities across lines of race, ethnicity and class. · Maintain an online presence on social networking sites and blogs. · Coordinate and manage from a comprehensive organizer database. · Effectively employ and track campaign metrics as they pertain to their responsibilities, and provide a weekly progress report on targets and outcomes · The National Organizer will be under the direct management of the Director of Campaigns
Qualifications:· A strong dedication to stop climate change. · An understanding of current energy issues, stakeholders and initiatives, as well as intersections with social and environmental justice. · Belief in the next generation of young people to create meaningful change. · Commitment to finding just, equitable solutions to the climate-energy crisis · Organizing or campaign experience, preferably on climate, energy and/or justice issues, specifically: - Experience training volunteers on: community outreach, new media, and event facilitation - Strong and demonstrated oral communication ability, specifically: public speaking and presentations - Written communication, analytic, organizational and planning skills - Experience and comfort with phone outreach - Experience using online collaborative tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar and other online applications (i.e. Facebook, YouTube) · Experience working with diverse communities around energy or environmental issues desired, but not required · Sense of humor and ability to have fun while doing important work · Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-centered workplace · Strength in multi-tasking, goal-setting and workload prioritization · A sense of urgency while communicating with candor and compassion
