Friends of Family Farmers seeks Temporary Event Organizer

Hours designated for project: 90 Salary: $20/hour 

Duration of Project: January 18, 2010 ? March 15, 2010

Friends of Family Farmers (FoFF) seeks to hire a Temporary Event Organizer (TEO), who has experience in event planning and working with volunteers. The ideal candidate will be based in southern Oregon, Eugene or Corvallis.  FoFF is a 501(c)3 non-profit grassroots organization promoting sensible policies, programs, and regulations that protect and expand the ability of Oregon?s family farmers to run a successful land-based enterprise while providing safe and nutritious food for all Oregonians. Through education, advocacy, and community organizing, Friends of Family Farmers supports socially and environmentally responsible family-scale agriculture and citizens working to shape healthy rural communities.

The TEO will work with the Board Co-Presidents and a Grassroots Organizer to plan and coordinate details for a Farmer Delegation, where a cross-section of family farmers will come together to establish a statewide platform for food and family farming in Oregon. The TEO will be responsible for coordinating event details for the Delegation such as lunch, hotel and travel accommodation for the attendees. In addition, the TEO will be responsible for assembling materials, assisting with a social the night before the Delegation and serving as the event host the day of the Delegation. After the Delegation, the TEO will be responsible for cataloging information in a way that can be used for effective campaigning in the future. The TEO will work from home and have regular check-ins with the Grassroots Organizer and the Board Presidents as necessary.  

Skill Requirement:-B.A., B.S. or M.A. in agricultural policy, environmental studies, public health, or equivalent work experience preferred;-1-3 years experience working with volunteers in the environmental movement, political campaigns, or other similar grassroots campaigns;-Current basic knowledge of issues facing Oregon agriculture,-Current contacts in the environmental/sustainable agriculture community;-Demonstrated skills in working with people and good verbal communication skills;-Strong organizational and problem solving skill and the ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively;-Proficient computer skills; knowledge and experience with word processing, database and communications software;-Ability to travel as needed and access to a computer with internet.
