position summary:

The founding Director is retiring and ZAP is seeking a leader who can maintain the values that we hold dear, while using her/his passion for our mission, extraordinary communication skills, and organizational talents to expand our sales of Weya art. Most of our income comes from the sale of art through festivals and month-long exhibits in churches, public art spaces and other interested venues. The Executive Director of ZAP must be comfortable and effective calling people to set up exhibits, organizing a yearly calendar of events, and coordinating the myriad details of mounting exhibits. The director must inspire volunteers to enable us to accomplish our mission with a limited staff and budget of roughly $130k per year. The position involves working with a half-time colleague in the U.S., a full-time Zimbabwean colleague, and a board. It also involves an annual 4-6 week trip to Zimbabwe.

Salary / Pay Rate:The current salary is $30K per year with no benefits, but our intention is to increase that as we expand our revenue.
Required Skills and Abilities:This is a challenging, exciting and fulfilling position with a combination of organizational, communication and artistic skills not usually found in the same person. We are looking for a self-directed and energized leader with the ability to fulfill our mission, who - • Has brought creative problem-solving skills and implementation strategies to meet challenges – is willing and able to find creative and innovative paths to move ZAP forward • Is committed to and passionate about social justice • Has experience and ease in working cross-culturally • Has exceptional people skills, with the ability to communicate in a way that inspires others and engages them in pursuit of our mission • Thrives on making & sustaining human connections, both in person and via electronic media – able to network and build relationships • Has excellent organizational ability – the capacity to coordinate a busy schedule, oversee the details of 30 exhibits per year and all fiscal aspects of a small non-profit organization, and work comfortably and effectively with staff and a board • Is interested in art
