Volunteer Bookkeeper for Umbrella (please, pretty please)

About Umbrella Umbrella is a nonprofit organization that encourages community-based street culture through project sponsorship.  If you bike, walk, skateboard or enjoy hanging out on streets, then we are the organization you’ve never heard of that probably does the back end of half of the stuff you go to.  Events and organizations that have come under the Umbrella include Shift, the Sprockettes, the Multnomah County Bike Fair, the Pedalpalooza Kickoff Party, RiverFest Parade, and Oregon Manifest.  Our unofficial tagline is, “We do the wonk so you don’t have to.”  (Thanks to BikePortland.org for helping us write that intro.)

Do your guts go gooey over phrases like “temporarily restricted net assets” and forms like the 990?  Or do you have no idea what these are but have a burning desire to know and love new exciting things like the CT-12 and GAAP standards?  Help us wonk!

Umbrella is currently offering a Bookkeeping volunteer/internship. This is a great opportunity for a number-loving person to join a scrappy nonprofit with heart. Our ideal volunteer/intern will have some understanding of bookkeeping basics, humor, and free time to commit to getting acquainted with Umbrella and its accounts. Knowledge of Quickbooks a plus.  Ability to balance your own checkbook required. Our beloved volunteer/intern will perform all aspects of financial accounting. Experience with nonprofit accounting is helpful.

Responsibilities Include: - Accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger. - Allocation of income and expenses to funds and projects. - Grants management and reporting. - Monthly financial reports for Board review. - Development and maintenance of financial records, spreadsheets and files. - Other duties as desired, begged of and accepted.

Time Commitment: Six month commitment preferred, 5-10 hrs per month with flexibility. You will be rewarded in showered gratitude, but that is the only currency we can spare (you’ll understand this intimately as our bookkeeper).

To Contact Us: Please email Steph at [email protected] with a short description of why you want to be our numbers person. THANKS to anyone with interest and ability. We adore you already.
