position summary:

The Development Director, as part of senior management of Portland Waldorf School, will create a robust annual fund and guide individual and event fundraising. The successful candidate combines development skills with awareness of school dynamics including internal and external constituency. The director will skillfully match fundraising tools with talents of volunteers and teachers to accomplish community goals. Director can be considered a “Philanthropy Guide” who reflects the various parts of the school community. Recently completed assessment and planning process for fund development provides information for quick start on annual fund as well as special major gift projects. Director will hire and supervise Development Assistant to track donor information and gifts, contract grant writer, event coordinator for ongoing event and special gifts contractor. Qualifications:Required • Five years successful fundraising experience for non-profit organization or independent school. • Proven record of successful cultivation, solicitation of annual gifts • Ability to initiate, cultivate prospective donor, key volunteers, foundation program officers relationships • Effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university • Understand charitable giving tax laws • Professional history that displays sense of initiative, ability to stay focused, good organizational and managerial skills, ability to work collegially and build positive internal and external relationships Desired • Waldorf education or administrative training • Familiarity with donor databases, social networking sites and Microsoft Office • Affiliation with local and national development professional organizations • Certified Fundraising Executive • Fundraising experience in school setting
