On Paper Wings film screening 5/8

Dharma Rain Zen Center presents a screening of ON PAPER WINGS by Portland filmmaker, Ilana Sol Sat., May 8, 7:30pm

Few people knew about the balloon bombs sent from Japan to the U.S. during World War 2; bombs made in factory-schools by children. On May 5, 1945, one caused the only deaths in the U.S. mainland due to enemy action, killing a woman and five children in Bly, Or.

In 1995, a Japanese-American university professor, who had lived in an internment camp during the war, initiated a series of events connecting those who physically created the bombs and the community of Bly. On Paper Wings tells the compelling story of the bombs, the people, the communities, and a powerful healing process involving 1000 paper cranes.

There will be a short demonstration on how to fold paper cranes preceding the film. The filmmaker will be in attendence.

"A beautiful film... A well-crafted story. You'd better bring a hanky." -Portland Mercury
