Child Advocate Internship

Description: The Buckman Elementary SUN Community School is looking for an intern that has training and/or experience working with emotionally disturbed children to work one-on-one with a 3rd grade female student during our extended day programming.

Intern responsibilities (included but not limited to):

>Help the student transition from the end of the school day to after school programming

>Help the student integrate and engage in after school enrichment activities and classes

>Be a constructive role model

>Collaborate with extended day staff to assess student’s needs and how best to address them

>Develop effective strategies for helping the student succeed in extended day programming and school

>Help identify possible family and intervention strategies

Location: Buckman SUN School 320 SE 16th Avenue (@ SE Stark) Portland, Oregon 97214

Commitment*: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, 3:00 - 5:30 Tues, 3:00-4:00

*Days are flexible, but ideally we would like someone who is available at least two of those days.

Buckman SUN Community School is a collaboration of Impact Northwest, Multnomah County Department of County Human Services, the City of Portland Parks and Recreation and Portland Public Schools.

SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) Community Schools are located in Portland Public Schools and are designed to transform schools into community learning centers and promote student achievement and enrichment through greater neighborhood involvement. They provide educational, recreational, social and health services.
