ReVisioning Value Conference Apr 26-27 in Portland, Oregon: Convergence of Leadership, Potential and Innovation in Impact Invest

ReVisioning Value Conference Apr 26-27 in Portland, Oregon

Convergence of Leadership, Potential and Innovation in Impact Investing at Historic Gerding Theater

The ReVisioning Value Conference (ReVV2010) on Monday April 26th in Portland, Oregon, is a cross-sector gathering of do-gooders who are unlikely bedfellows: social innovators and wealth managers, bankers and nonprofits, business leaders and investors – all talking about how to get increased capital and talent into the hands of those who will use them to fix what ails us, locally and globally. So much of what they will be speaking about has happened in the last 6 months, so much is truly breaking news – all around social innovation. The conference will highlight ideas and tools that are truly new, with speakers coming in from around the world as well as local luminaries such as Dave Williams, CEO of ShoreBank Pacific, Leslie Christian of Portfolio21, Dave Chen of Equilibrium, Ed Blackburn of Central City Concern and many others who are pushing the envelope with precedent-setting approaches to change right here in town. A provocative look at the restrictions on non profits will start the day off with Keynote Speaker Dan Pallotta, Author of Uncharitable.

Featured speakers include Carol Tappenden of South African Social Investment Exchange (SASIX), the first of its kind with an astonishing track record. This tool initiated a global focus on online social stock markets, now funded by Rockefeller and others. The SASIX has spawned the GSIX, a global network in development now. Arjan Shutte of the Center for Financial Services Innovation will lead the Impact Investing in the Under-Banked Market session. Arjan was the broker of the astonishing Circle Lending small business that became Virgin Money, now owned by Richard Branson. Circle Lending just closed on a 20 million dollar fund for continued investments in moving people out of poverty through ethical and focused financial products to serve the poor.

Kris Kimmel of Kentucky Space will talk about their brand new NASA agreement that allows Kentucky Space to be one of only 6 organizations in the world to have real estate on the space station. They have developed something called a “CubeLab” for research in zero gravity. They hope it will be used by scientists to cure disease and invest new materials for improving the world. http://kysat.typepad.com/ His organization, a nonprofit, is the largest venture capital firm in Kentucky.

A groundbreaking panel discussion focused on Bringing Human and Financial Capital to Social Change: Encore Innovation will feature Jim Emerman, Executive VP, Civic Ventures; Yvonne Hunt, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Legacy Ventures and past VP of Global Philanthropy for HP; Leslye Louie, National Director, Encore Fellowships Network. This is a new approach to leading change and engaging the Boomer generation in leaving a positive legacy. A unique public/private partnership between Civic Ventures and HP has led to a new national program. They will be talking about this, along with their local affiliate, Life by Design NW.
