After-School Club Volunteer OREGON MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY

POSITION SUMMARY: The After-School Club Volunteer will help OMSI Outreach staff offer fun, hands-on science learning experiences to elementary and middle school students. After-school clubs meet for hour-long sessions on a variety of science topics including physics, chemistry, life science, space science and more!

Currently, a volunteer is needed to assist with the after-school club at the Richmond Elementary School in South East Portland the remainder of the school year through June 10th. The club meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Typically OMSI is onsite for a half hour before and a half hour after each session, setting up and tearing down. Transportation can be provided to and from the museum leaving at 1:30pm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Interact with children in elementary and/or middle school and help them explore science through hands-on projects and activities. • Help OMSI staff set up and tear down traveling science activities. • Assist with classroom management. • Assume other duties as assigned by the Outreach Educators.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: • Willing to interact closely with children. • Committed to sharing accurate science information. • Able to maintain a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor in a school atmosphere. • Able to communicate effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. • Able to provide excellent customer service. • Must present a professional appearance. • Dependable and punctual. • Self-directed and willing to take initiative. • Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures. • Willing to commit to at least one session of six or more weekly hour-long programs.
